Intern Interviews
As lead teacher
for grade 4, I conducted interviews for spring semester interns today. It is always hard to select interns for
spring semester, due to the fact that you usually grow so fond of your fall
intern & just like anything, change is difficult. It is especially difficult when someone new
is entering half way thru the year and they are expected to “jump in” full
swing! This is my 5th year in
a row having interns year round. All 10
of my previous interns are currently teaching.
This is a great track record, considering how tight the job market is in
this region. Often, I become exhausted from having someone sharing my room with
me at all times, constantly being “on-stage” not only for the kids, but for the
adult in the room who is learning to become a teacher. However, when the Intern is a good one…it is
wonderful (like Emily KJ). It is great to be around eager minds- who are
fresh and ready to conquer the world. I
believe it keeps me on my toes. I love
to watch them grow, take initiative, and help mold who they will become as
future educators.
Take away point from today:
If interviewing for a teaching position…know the district’s mission, research
about the school in which you are interviewing, and be able to give
details/examples to back up your answers!
It doesn’t hurt to have a COOL factor either…
A previous intern of mine created an imovie about herself for
her interview. A-MAZ-ING! She showed proof of her teaching, lesson
ideas, and best of all- colleagues were filmed for reference confirmations! She received more than one job offer. (Might as well give her a shot-out- check out her blog...www.fashionedforfirst.blogspot.com)
If I ever leave B-town, this would be a must do!

:) Do you guys have Macs at Morgan now for this purpose? It was so nice to have that at Baraboo and after making that video (among others) it's unfortunate I don't have access to one now. I'm thinking about getting a Mac for my next laptop...but Marty's a PC guy. I Movie is SO easy to use though :) If you ever need help with it, you know my number!
